Government of Georgia will provide financial aid to Ukrainian children with the support of UNICEF

TBILISI, 30 December 2022. The Government of Georgia will provide one-time financial aid to vulnerable Ukrainian families with children with the support of UNICEF. In total, more than 3,000 Ukrainian children will receive financial aid to help them cope with the challenges related to winter.

Families that arrived in Georgia after 1 February 2022 will receive 470 Georgian GEL per child. The Ukrainian children's legal representatives should apply to the Social Service Agency's territorial and regional offices to receive financial aid.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees more than 180,000 citizens of Ukraine have entered the territory of Georgia since 24 February 2022. As of November 2022, around 25,000 of them are still in Georgia.

UNICEF has actively been involved in response to the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. In Georgia, UNICEF works closely with the Government and NGOs to help them identify unaccompanied minors with the aim of addressing their needs. UNICEF works with the Ministry of Education and Science and local municipalities to simplify the regulations on enrollment procedures in public preschools for all Ukrainian preschool-age children.

Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the Government of Georgia has been supporting Ukrainian families who have arrived in Georgia. All kinds of social services offered by the central and municipal governments to the citizens of Georgia are also available for Ukrainian families.
