Families flee violence in the Mosul Corridor
Notes:
Since March 2016, more than 160,000 people have been displaced from Mosul, Shirqat, Qayyarah, Hawiga, and surrounding areas. The UN estimates that by of end of the year, up to one million people from Mosul may flee their homes.
UNICEF is providing emergency assistance to newly displaced families through the Rapid Response Mechanism, which gives a family of seven enough water, food and hygiene supplies to last one week. This assistance is followed with the provision of water and sanitation services and health, child protection and education assistance.
To help children who may flee from Mosul in the coming days we have teams ready to respond to children suffering extreme mental and physical trauma, as well as water and hygiene supplies that we will give out at the first possible point. We also have supplies of water, showers, latrines and emergency packages ready to deliver to the emergency camps.
More than 3.3 million people have been displaced by conflict in Iraq since early 2014 - almost half of them children.
